A surrendering to the senses also occurs when craving sweets while dieting. This can be observed when the scent of a freshly baked pie enters the room or the sight of marshmallows drives one to seek out these types of food.

There are also gender differences when it comes to the kind of food that is desired. Craving sweets while dieting is often seen in women, while men tend to lean towards meals involving steaks, other meats and potatoes.
